Biography

Dr. Mamta Patel is a distinguished Criminologist, currently serving as a Professor of Criminology in the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Dr. Harisingh Gour (Central) University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. She has been teaching Criminology for the past twenty- four years and has a research experience of over twenty- eight years.  Dr. Patel has earned Bachelor’s, and a Master’s degree in Criminology and Forensic Science from Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar. She has also got a Doctoral degree in Criminology and Forensic Science at the same institute.

She has been working on Gerontology with different aspects of criminology for more than thirty years. Her broad research interest includes Criminology, Victimology, and Gerontology. She has published more than twenty-five research papers in reputed national/ international journals and presented more than fifty papers at different National and International conferences.

She is the recipient of GRMM Gold Medal for the first rank in MA/MSc in Criminology and Forensic Science, Indian Society of Criminology- Gold Medal for Best Research Paper Award at Bangalore, Karnataka (1990), ISC- Fellowship Award for outstanding contribution to Indian Society of Criminology at Kolkata, Bengal (2007), ISC – Prof. S. S. Shrivastava Memorial Award for Excellence in teaching and research work in criminology at Gandhinagar, Gujarat (2018).

She is a life member of several professional societies and has chaired several sessions at national and international conferences. She has served as a Head of the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (from July 2019 to August 2022). She has been working as a member of the Academic Council of this University. She has served as a Vice-Chairperson of the Indian Society of Criminology. She was the Convener and Organizing Secretary of the 42nd All India Criminology Conference of ISC on “Criminology for Global Wellness”, in 2020. She has also coordinated a UGC - HRDC Refresher Course on “Criminology in 21st Century”, in 2021. She was also the Coordinator of UGC-HRDC, Short Term Course on “Research Methods in Criminology and Criminal Justice”, in 2022.

Through her published work, presentations at conferences, and special talks, she has tried to bring Criminological discourse into the public domain.
